Adam Driver (Megalopolis, Ferrari), Jeremy Strong (Succession, The Apprentice), and Anne Hathaway (The Idea of You, Mothers’ Instinct) are set to star in James Gray‘s crime-drama-thriller Paper Tiger. Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025.
Written and directed by Gray, Paper Tiger follows two brothers who pursue the American Dream, only to become entangled in a scheme that turns out to be too good to be true. As they try to navigate their way through an increasingly dangerous world of corruption and violence, they find themselves and their family brutally terrorized by the Russian ‘Mafiya.’ Their bond begins to fray, and betrayal—once utterly unthinkable—now becomes all too possible.
According to Deadline, Paper Tiger is a sophisticated crime-drama-thriller at AFM, breaking away from the horror-heavy lineup. Gray, with five Cannes Palme d’Or nominations, is known for high-quality, character-driven films, and buyers are actively seeking elevated, prestige projects like Paper Tiger.
Leone Film Group will fully finance the project, with Raffaella Leone producing alongside Rodrigo Teixeira under his RT Features banner. CAA Media Finance will manage the U.S. distribution rights for the film. The Veterans is doing international sales rights and will introduce Paper Tiger at the American Film Market (AFM).
The project marks Gray’s return to the themes and style of his earlier films, We Own The Night and Little Odessa, following his recent work on Armageddon Time and Ad Astra.
Driver has been nominated for two Oscars, four Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award. He is known for his roles in Marriage Story, BlacKkKlansman, and Girls. He recently finished filming Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, and is currently on stage in Hold On To Me Darling at the Lortel Theater.
Strong, an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Tony Award winner, is currently in Ali Abassi’s drama The Apprentice, playing Roy Cohn. He is also working on Scott Cooper’s Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere. This spring, he returned to Broadway in An Enemy of the People, winning the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.
Hathaway, an Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy winner, is well known for her roles in Les Misérables, The Dark Knight Rises, Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada, and most recently, The Idea of You. She is currently in post-production on Mother Mary directed by David Lowery for A24 and Flowervale Street directed by David Robert Mitchell for Warner Bros. Hathaway will also reprise her role in The Princess Diaries 3 alongside Julie Andrews for Disney.
The release date for Paper Tiger has not yet been announced.
