Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday has become one of the biggest surprises ever for MCU fans. Marvel Studios released the first teaser for Doomsday, announcing Steve Rogers’ return.
According to Anthony Russo, Steve Rogers has a central role in the Avengers and the overall MCU story. He described Steve Rogers’ importance to the MCU storyline as deeply personal to him and Joe Russo.
Evans’ return in Doomsday is meaningful to the plot, not just a cameo, as the MCU story cannot be told without Steve Rogers at its core.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Russo said, “His central role to the Avengers and the larger narrative of what the MCU has been, that’s something that’s very personal to us. We can’t see this narrative without his central role in it.”
During the first trailer release, Joe and Anthony Russo opened up about the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers:

According to THR, Marvel Studios is reportedly proud that the first four Avengers: Doomsday trailers have been a hit, even without showing Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. This shows that fans remain deeply passionate about MCU characters and the actors who brought them to life.
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
