Famke Janssen is reportedly set to return as Jean Grey in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, as confirmed by Marvel veteran X-Men writer Chris Claremont. Although, Marvel Studios has not yet officially confirmed Janssen’s casting.
Speaking via the Power of X-Men podcast (via Instagram), Claremont praised the recent Avengers: Doomsday trailer featuring various legacy X-Men movie cast members and revealed that Janssen will appear as well.
Claremont said, “The thing I find most wonderful about it is they’re bringing back the original cast, including Famke.”
The X-Men trailer for Avengers: Doomsday features Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden). Magneto talks about inevitable death, setting a dark tone, while Cyclops fires his optic blasts at approaching Sentinels.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Janssen was asked if Marvel had ever asked her to play Jean Grey again after the Fox-era movies. She replied, “Never. Never ever.”
“I should be flattered, I suppose, that this character has resonated with people,” she added. “It’s been so long, but it’s nice that people are still talking about her. I’m sure every single time there’s a new movie that they’re doing, like… is it Doomsday? It’ll come up again.
“Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. It’s interesting. I didn’t realize that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s going to be printed.”
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
