Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey will be rated R, featuring multiple scenes of nudity.
According to reports from X user Christopher Nolan Art & Updates, Nolan’s The Odyssey will include at least one intimate scene and is likely to receive an R rating. An intimacy coordinator has also been hired.
We received an update during production in March 2025 that Benny Safdie and Lupita Nyong’o filmed a particularly violent scene at the Castle of Methoni.
For those wondering why there’s nudity in The Odyssey — the story contains mature themes, and Nolan’s last film, Oppenheimer, also received an R rating.
The first teaser trailer for The Odyssey will be released next month, and it’s confirmed that the trailer will play in theaters alongside the release of Jurassic World Rebirth.
During the world premiere of Jurassic World Rebirth, The Odyssey trailer was shown, and a leaked description has surfaced: “It features oceans, horses, and caves, with epic and majestic visuals. Jon Bernthal’s character can be heard speaking, and the visible cast includes Matt Damon, John Leguizamo, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland. The trailer runs for approximately a minute and a half.”

The Odyssey will be a mythical action epic based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer. It tells the story of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
Set in the 8th century BC, after the ten-year Trojan War, the Greek hero Odysseus travels from Troy to Ithaca via Africa and southern Europe. His journey lasts an additional ten years, during which he faces many dangers, and all of his crewmates are killed. In his absence, Odysseus is presumed dead, leaving his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, to deal with a group of unruly suitors competing for Penelope’s hand in marriage.
