DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow starring Milly Alcock has a filming update from DC’s boss James Gunn, following the release of the first trailer for Superman.

According to Gunn, filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will officially begin next month (January 2025) in England.

On the Bluesky social platform, @jamesgunn.bsky.social teased a fan asking for a Supergirl update. Gunn said, “You don’t need to burn an orphanage, we start shooting in a couple of weeks.”

Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira, the film stars Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. It is the second film in the DC Universe and the fourth installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Recently, Matthias Schoenaerts has been cast as Krem of the Yellow Hills in the movie, and Eve Ridley will play the role of Ruthye Marye Knoll. It is also reported that Krypto the Superdog will appear in the film.

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows Kara Zor-El’s story and her darker origin before she finally made her way to Earth.”

There will be multiple villains in the film, including Lobo, a ruthless bounty hunter from across the galaxy. Jason Momoa is rumored to play the character.

Upon the film’s announcement, Gunn said, “In our series, we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth as a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

Gunn and Peter Safran are producing the film, with DC EVP Chantal Nong serving as the executive producer.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
