Disney is developing a New ‘Princess Diaries’ movie. The Film is a continuation of Anne Hathaway‘s films and not a reboot. The script is written by Aadrita Mukerji for Disney.
According to the THR, Hathaway has not yet signed or confirmed the deal. For the continuation she must accept to return then only the studio can move forward. Hathaway hadn’t commented yet.
The Princess Diaries, the first film was released in 2001. The film is based on Meg Cabot’s 2000 young adult novel of the same name. The film grossed $165.3 million worldwide over a $26 million budget. Following the success a sequel titled The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement was released in 2004, which grossed $134.7 million worldwide over a $45 million budget. In the film, Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway), is a shy American teenager who learns she is heir to the throne of a European kingdom. Under the tutelage of her estranged grandmother (Andrews), the kingdom’s reigning queen, Mia must decide whether to claim the throne she has inherited or renounce her title permanently.
Debra Martin Chase, who produced the first two Princess Diaries films is returning to produce the sequel. Melissa Stack. the screenwriter of Cameron Diaz’s The Other Woman and Disney+ film Godmothered will executive produce the film.
Mukerji is best known for her work in Supergirl, Scorpion, Reacher, and Quantum Leap.
Anne Hathaway is known for her roles in Get Smart (2008), Bride Wars (2009), Valentine’s Day (2010), Love & Other Drugs (2010), and Alice in Wonderland (2010). She next appears in the psychological thriller Mothers’ Instinct alongside Jessica Chastain. The film is based on the novel Derrière la Haine by novelist Barbara Abel.
