Following the release of the final season of Stranger Things on Netflix, some concept designs for Vecna from the series have been revealed.
According to What’s on Netflix, Vecna could have been much scarier in earlier versions that were originally planned for Stranger Things. The early concept designs of Vecna were revealed throughout the Stranger Things documentary. See the images below.
VFX Art Director Michael Maher Jr. said that they went through maybe 100 different looks, experimenting with various designs, including one where Vecna was wearing a cloak of some kind.
Maher Jr. added, “Finally, we used some vines as a diseased aspect, and it clicked.”
In a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jamie Campbell Bower said that Vecna’s final words in Stranger Things Season 5 were meant to be “please don’t.”
“We tried it, and it just didn’t work. It didn’t land.”
Here’s the full synopsis for Stranger Things 5:
“The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown.
Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread.
The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”
