Emma Mackey Won’t Return In “Sex Education” Season 5
Emma Mackey says she won’t be returning for “Sex Education” Season 5. During the BAFTA Rising Star Award event, she spoke to RadioTimes.com and told them that she wrapped up season 4 last week and would not be returning to season 5.
Mackey said, “Season 5? I’ve just finished the fourth one last week, No I don’t think I’ll be in season 5. I’ve said goodbye to Maeve.”
Mackey recently told Total Film that she feels ready to leave Sex Education behind. She said, “It’s just always tricky, it’s different when you’re playing a character that is sort of stuck in time. You know, we’re playing 17-year-olds, and we’re all almost 30, so it is a bit weird.” Mackey added, “It’s something that has given us opportunities in different ways, but it’s something that I want to gracefully exit from, and be happy that it exists and protect it and enjoy it in the time that it has existed in, but yeah, it needs to be left alone now I think.”
Season 4 also stars Chaneil Kular, Simone Ashley, Mimi Keene, Tanya Reynolds, Mikael Persbrandt, Patricia Allison, Sami Outalball, Anne-Marie Duff, George Robinson, Chinenye Ezeudu, Alistair Petrie, Samantha Spiro, Rakhee Thakrar, Jason Isaacs, Dua Saleh, and Jim Howick.
Laurie Nunn wrote and created the series, which is produced by Eleven. The writing team includes Sophie Goodhart, Selina Lim, Mawaan Rizwan, Temi Wilkey, and Alice Seabright, with additional material from Jodie Mitchell. Executive producers include Laurie Nunn, Taylor, and Jamie Campbell.
“Sex Education” Season 4 will premiere on Netflix in mid-2023. Seasons 1, 2, and 3 are now available on the platform.
