Depp last appeared as Jack Sparrow in 2017’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” and a sequel was planned. However, in 2018, Disney reportedly fired Depp from the franchise due to his highly publicized legal dispute with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, which involved allegations of domestic violence. In 2022, Depp won a defamation trial against Amber Heard, and the jury awarded him $15 million in damages. Depp’s total damages were later reduced to $10.35 million, and the jury also awarded $2 million in damages to Heard in her counterclaim.

According to PEOPLE, Johnny Depp might return for more films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Depp’s insider said, “Anything is possible.” He added, “If it’s the right project, he’ll do it.”
During the defamation trial in 2022, Johnny Depp was asked by attorney Ben Rottenborn if he would work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film if they offered him $300 million and a million alpacas. Johnny answered, “That is true,” meaning he wouldn’t go back to work with Disney even with that offer.

The New York Times mentioned in an article on June 5 that Disney was considering working with Johnny Depp again on another Pirates film. Although it wasn’t specified whether Johnny would return, the article stated that Disney was seemingly becoming more open to the idea of collaborating with him again.
