Alita: Battle Angel Star Rosa Salazar Joins “Captain America: New World Order” as Rachel Leighton/Diamondback from Marvel’s Thunderbolts
Exclusive: Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar has joined the cast of “Captain America: New World Order.” Salazar will play the role of Rachel Leighton/Diamondback, who has been associated with the superhero team “Thunderbolts.” Rachel Leighton was a former member of the criminal organization called the Serpent Society.
In Marvel Comics, Rachel Leighton, a.k.a. Diamondback, is associated with the superhero team called the Thunderbolts and was a former member of the criminal organization known as the Serpent Society.
Rachel Leighton was introduced in Captain America #310 in 1985. She was born in New York City and grew up in the Bronx. Rachel’s life took a turn when she joined the criminal organization known as the Serpent Society, which operated as a network of snake-themed villains. Taking on the alias Diamondback, Rachel became an adept fighter and assassin, utilizing her skills with knives and other weapons. During her time with the Serpent Society, Rachel crossed paths with various superheroes, including Captain America. However, she eventually experienced a change of heart and decided to leave the criminal life behind. Motivated by a desire for redemption and a chance to do good, Rachel sought to reform herself and put her skills to better use.
Salazar will be joining WWE star Seth Rollins as both play the main villains in “Captain America: New World Order.” Rollins is also playing a member of the Serpent Society. Most recently, Anthony Mackie, who plays the new Captain America in the film, was spotted wearing a new Captain America suit and doing a flip using the rope. The filming is currently underway in Atlanta, Georgia.
Who Is Rosa Salazar?
Rosa Salazar is best known for her lead role as Alita in “Alita: Battle Angel.” Salazar also appeared in other films such as “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” and its sequel “Maze Runner: The Death Cure,” as well as the Netflix film “Bird Box.”
Directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. The film stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Danny Ramirez as Joaquín Torres/Falcon, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph/Sabra, and Xosha Roquemore.
As we already reported the plot details of the film, in Captain America: New World Order, an international conflict over a new metal called Adamantium was discovered on Tiamut, the Celestial of the Eternals, which is now an island. Each country wants a piece of that new metal and claims the island as its own. Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, who is now president, wants to reclaim the island and the Adamantium at all costs, and Sam Wilson’s Captain America gets in his way by trying to stop him, by assembling a new group of heroes, including the new Falcon, to oppose him. Captain America will be fighting some other villains who are also trying to get their hands on Adamantium. It is also confirmed that a vibranium war will occur in Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts.
Captain America: New World Order will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
