The first look at the early concept designs for Homelander’s Homelander 1987 suit from The Boys has been revealed.
On X, user TheBoysOOCC shared concept art for Homelander 1987, featuring four alternate early suit designs for the character, including long-haired versions with different color schemes and capes. The artwork appeared in Season 4, Episode 4 of the show during a scene in which Homelander returns to the lab where he was created and experimented on. See it below.

The concept art features several long-haired versions of Homelander in different patriotic superhero-inspired color schemes, including a gold-and-yellow suit with a blue cape, a red suit with a blue cape, a blue suit with a gold cape, and a blue suit with a red cape that closely resembles his final design.
In its final episode, The Boys brought closure to its major characters, with Starlight (Erin Moriarty) throwing The Deep into dangerous waters filled with predators, Butcher (Karl Urban) ending Homelander’s (Antony Starr) life in the Oval Office after Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) removed his abilities, and Hughie (Jack Quaid) being forced to kill Butcher to stop his plan to exterminate all Supes.
Speaking to Deadline, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke explained why he chose to kill Homelander rather than leave him completely powerless in the final season.
“Yeah, it was really important to us for Homelander to at least experience a little bit of time powerless,” said Kripke. “People have asked me, ‘Well, why don’t you send him out into the world powerless? Wouldn’t that be the ultimate punishment?’ I’m like, it would, until he gets his hands on some more Compound V, and then you’re back to where you started.”
“So, he cannot walk out of that room alive, but we can spend time with him powerless to really reveal what everyone’s been saying all season, which is, ‘Take away those powers and you are nothing.’ He’s so cowardly, blubbering, and pathetic, as are most strong men when you remove their power and they’re faced with their imminent death. They rarely handle it bravely.”
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Kripke revealed that Antony Starr came up with Homelander’s line about eating shit in The Boys finale.
“I reached out to him before the script came out, and I said, ‘He goes out in the most pathetic way possible,’” Kripke said. “And he was like, ‘Of course. He has to. This is the end. He has to get a comeuppance that befits the horror that he’s been inflicting for the last seven years.’ So he totally understood it.”
“And as a matter of fact, he added the line, ‘I’ll eat your shit on live TV.’”
All episodes of The Boys are now available to stream on Prime Video.
