A new look at Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Jon Bernthal‘s The Punisher from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been revealed by Empire.

Speaking to Empire, Holland says fans will see a version of The Punisher that remains faithful to the character seen in previous Marvel projects.
“I know that there are concerns about taking a sort of R-rated character and putting him into one of these movies, but the way that we’ve designed the world around him feels very authentic to the Frank Castle we know.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears set to deliver a comic-accurate dynamic between Spider-Man and The Punisher.
Bernthal says Frank Castle remains completely comfortable operating in a dark and violent world. According to Bernthal, Frank is not looking for friendship, support, or anyone to save him from his personal struggles. Bernthal also hinted that Frank secretly cares about Peter Parker.
Bernthal said, “Frank Castle is perfectly at peace in a world of absolute darkness.” He added, “He’s not looking for a buddy, he’s not looking for a friend, he’s not looking for a hand to pull him out of the hole that he’s in. He’s fine living in there. In fact, all he wants to do is dig deeper.”
He continued, “I think, begrudgingly, Frank would tell you, if he had to be honest, he does care about Peter.”
MJ Still Knows Spider-Man, But Not Peter Parker in Brand New Day

Zendaya’s MJ still remembers Spider-Man, but she no longer remembers Peter Parker due to Doctor Strange’s spell. Even though she has lost her memories of Peter, MJ is expected to cross paths with Spider-Man again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
According to Zendaya, MJ sees Spider-Man as a familiar hero, but Peter Parker is now a stranger to her.
“It’s easy in a way, because I don’t have to play that I know this person,” Zendaya said. “I don’t have to play all the history that they have together because, seemingly, to her, they don’t.”
Here’s the new synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day:
After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink joins the cast alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Marvin Jones III has been confirmed to play the role of Tombstone. Additionally, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will appear in the movie.
The film is produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on July 31, 2026.
