It was a very close moment when Gal Gadot could have played the role of Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. But eventually, she lost the role to Charlize Theron.
During a recent appearance on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, Gadot appeared to promote her new movie The Runner and surprisingly opened up about her audition for Mad Max: Fury Road and how close she came to playing Furiosa. Gadot revealed that she screen-tested with Tom Hiddleston in London for director George Miller.
Gadot praised George Miller for having a clear vision of what he wanted from the film. She described the entire audition experience as “amazing.”
The screen test lasted four hours and took place at a beautiful home, where they worked and filmed. When asked if she thought she might get the role, Gadot said she felt really good about the work they had done. She also praised Hiddleston, calling him an “incredible actor” and saying he was already a respected theater actor in England at the time.
Gal Gadot: “I did my screen test with Tom Hiddleston in London with George Miller. We spent four hours in this beautiful home, working and filming intensely.”
“It was a cold winter day, and I came in wearing layers but left in a tank top. It was amazing.”
Josh Horowitz: “Was there a moment when you thought you might have gotten that role?”
Gal Gadot: “Yeah, I felt really good about the work we did. And Hiddleston is such an incredible actor. I didn’t know him back then, but he was already a big theater actor in England, and he was amazing.”
“George really knew what he wanted. He had a clear vision, and the whole experience was amazing.”
Gal Gadot Says She Was Told Wonder Woman 3 Would Happen Before It Was Scrapped
When asked about whether there will be Wonder Woman 3, Gadot claims that James Gunn and Peter Safran told her they would develop Wonder Woman 3 with her after taking over DC Studios. Gadot says she was ultimately not surprised when Wonder Woman 3 was scrapped.
She says she had already seen how other DC stars and filmmakers were handled. Gadot specifically pointed to Henry Cavill’s Superman exit and Patty Jenkins’ departure, saying neither situation was “handled elegantly.”
“I saw the way everybody else was handled. The Henry [Cavill] situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least. Same with Patty [Jenkins]. It was not handled elegantly. We’re all adults and it’s all good. It’s not even about [James Gunn and Peter Safran]. They are there and they’re there to do what they believe in. It’s all good.”
Will Gadot return as Wonder Woman? She has addressed whether she would ever return as Wonder Woman: “If Zack [Snyder] comes back to run DC, I’ll come back.”
