Greta Gerwig has signed a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two films based on C. S. Lewis‘s “The Chronicles of Narnia.”
In October 2018, Netflix signed a multi-year deal with The C.S. Lewis Company, as reported by Deadline. The agreement aims to develop new series and film projects based on the widely acclaimed book “The Chronicles of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis. Netflix, in collaboration with Entertainment One, will bring stories from the vast Narnia universe to life through series and films. Executive producers for the series include Mark Gordon from eOne, while Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber will serve as producers for the features. Netflix will serve as the studio for these projects.
It took 4 years for an update, and the latest news from The New Yorker is that Netflix has found a director for “The Chronicles of Narnia” projects. The director previously worked on the films “Lady Bird” and “Little Women.” However, Netflix has not provided any further updates on the progress of the projects yet.
In a statement, Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix, said, “C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world.” Sarandos added, “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.“
The “Chronicles of Narnia” film series, consisting of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (2005), “Prince Caspian” (2008), and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (2010), has grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide.
Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film ‘Barbie’ hits theaters on July 21, 2023. The film stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, alongside an ensemble supporting cast that includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell.
