Season 3 is reportedly set to begin with the “Battle of the Gullet,” one of the bloodiest sea battles in Westeros history.

In an interview with Deadline, HBO Drama Chief discussed the upcoming Battle of the Gullet in House of the Dragon Season 3.

“You know what, it was worth the wait. I was just on set and saw all the elements and what was behind it. I’m so glad we waited because it’s going to be better than ever, and I don’t think we had the time back then to achieve what we have this season. It’s just so massive—we needed the time to build it. One of the lead producers, Kevin de la Noy, worked on Titanic, and the expertise he brings from that experience has been invaluable.”
In an interview with Nexus Point News, showrunner Ryan Condal described Season 3 as “the most calm, orderly, and as ready as they’ve ever been for production.” He added, “Part of that is the third season, and part of that is the fact that everybody I interact with creatively on a day-to-day basis is back from a previous season.”
The show is based on Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin. The cast includes Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower. Fabien Frankel portrays Criston Cole, Tom Glynn-Carney plays Aegon II Targaryen, Ewan Mitchell takes on the role of Aemond Targaryen, and Phia Saban stars as Helaena Targaryen. Harry Collett plays Jacaerys Velaryon, while Phoebe Campbell and Gayle Rankin portray Rhaena Targaryen and Alys Rivers, respectively.
The co-starring cast includes Abigail Thorn as Sharako Lohar, with James Norton joining in a new role as Ormund Hightower.
Season 3 filming will begin in March and wrap in October 2025. It will consist of eight episodes and is set to premiere in 2026 on HBO and Max.
