Idris Elba (Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, The Suicide Squad) is in early talks to star as Man-at-Arms, a loyal ally to He-Man, in the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe film from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films, as reported by The Wrap.
Who is Man-At-Arms?
In the Masters of the Universe franchise, Man-at-Arms’ real name is Duncan—a skilled warrior and the chief of security for the kingdom of Eternia. He is a loyal ally to He-Man—the protagonist—and serves as both a mentor and a father figure to him.
Nicholas Galitzine will play the iconic lead character He-Man in the Masters of the Universe movie, with Travis Knight directing from a screenplay by Chris Butler. The film also stars Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn and Camila Mendes as Teela.
Here’s the plot synopsis for Masters of the Universe:
“10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe!”
Elba will next be seen in Apple’s Hijack season 2 and Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Following that, he will star in Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled White House thriller and Heads of State, also at Amazon.
Produced by Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch.
Masters of the Universe will hit theaters on June 5, 2026, by Amazon.
