It’s official! Avengers Tower has been bought by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).

In the MCU, Avengers Tower was a symbol of hope in New York and the home of heroes like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. It was important in Loki’s defeat in Avengers and the party scene in Age of Ultron. After Tony Stark’s death and the Avengers breaking up, they no longer own the tower. In Thunderbolts*, the famous building has a new owner.

Avengers Tower is now the headquarters of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Val). She is a mysterious CIA director who has recruited people like John Walker (Wyatt Russell) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). The tower is now called Watchtower. Director Jake Schreier says Val owning the tower represents a darker shift in the MCU. The tower was once a symbol of heroes, but now it belongs to someone with unclear intentions.

In a recent interview with Empire, Pugh described Thunderbolts* as a “badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie” with Marvel superheroes.

She said, “It ended up becoming this quite badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes.”

Directed by Schreier and stars Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, and Geraldine Viswanathan as Erin. Here’s the official synopsis for Thunderbolts*:

“In Thunderbolts, Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap — set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine — these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart — or find redemption and unite as something much more — before it’s too late?”

The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Brian Chapek, Matthew Jenkins, David J. Grant, and Scarlett Johansson

Thunderbolts* will hit theaters on May 2, 2025, in IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD, and premium screens worldwide.
