The production date for Jennifer Lawrence‘s new film has been revealed.
Lynne Ramsay’s film adaptation of Ariana Harwicz’s ‘Die, My Love’ starring Lawrence, is scheduled to begin filming from August 12, 2024, to October 8, 2024, in Canada, as confirmed by Production Weekly.
Directed by Ramsay from a screenplay she co-wrote with Harwicz and Enda Walsh, the film is set in a remote, forgotten rural area where a mother struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis.
According to the novel ‘Die, My Love’ synopsis, “In a forgotten patch of the French countryside, a woman is battling her demons: embracing exclusion yet wanting to belong, craving freedom whilst feeling trapped, yearning for family life but wanting to burn the entire house down. Given surprising leeway by her family for her increasingly erratic behavior, she nevertheless feels ever more stifled and repressed. Motherhood, womanhood, the banality of love, the terrors of desire, the brutality of ‘another person carrying your heart forever’: Die, My Love faces all this with a raw intensity. It’s not a question of if a breaking point will be reached, but rather when, and how violent a form will it take?”
Speaking to Variety at the Sarajevo Film Festival, Ramsay teased about Die, My Love, saying, “It’s about mental health…and the breakdown of a marriage.” She added, “But it’s really fucking funny. At least I think it’s funny… But I’m Glaswegian, so I’ve a really black sense of humor.”
The film is produced by Justine Ciarrocchi, Nick O’Hagan, and Martin Scorsese. The production company behind the film is Excellent Cadaver.
Ramsay has directed four films over her 24-year career: Ratcatcher, Morvern Callar, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and her most recent film, You Were Never Really Here, released in 2017. She hasn’t released a film in almost seven years.
‘Die, My Love’ is confirmed to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. As of now, there is no theater release date, and no studio has acquired the film.
