The title of Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist has reportedly been revealed by his production company, Red Room Pictures.
On the website, the project is listed under the title The Exorcist: Martyrs. It stars Scarlett Johansson as a rookie detective who takes on a case involving an inconceivable darkness in a small town.
The Exorcist: Martyrs is written and directed by Flanagan. Serving as the seventh installment in The Exorcist franchise, the film is described as a “radical new take” set within the same universe as the 1973 classic, while remaining separate from the recent sequels.
In an all-new story set in The Exorcist universe, a rookie detective trying to prove herself is plunged into an unimaginable evil that rattles everything she believes.

The film stars Johansson alongside Diane Lane, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, Sasha Calle, John Leguizamo, Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Gil Bellows, Carl Lumbly, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak, Carla Gugino, Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, and Kate Siegel.
Produced by David Robinson, Jason Blum, and Flanagan, with Alexandra Magistro and Ryan Turek serving as executive producers. The film is a production of Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Morgan Creek Entertainment, in association with Flanagan’s Red Room Pictures.
The Exorcist: Martyrs will hit theaters on March 12, 2027, by Universal Pictures.
