Tom Cruise‘s Mission Impossible 8 is reportedly experiencing another production delay due to a malfunction with a £23M submarine during filming. The film was set to be released this summer but was delayed due to production issues. It seems the same thing has happened this time as well.
According to The Mirror, the gimbal used to lower the 120-foot-high submarine structure jammed under its weight and had to be repaired.
Paramount Pictures is spending more money each day to resolve this issue and restart production as soon as possible, as confirmed by a source. “They’re not happy as it puts production behind, which costs a lot of money per day.”
Back in April 2024, Cruise was spotted in Paris filming Mission: Impossible 8. The scene features Cruise riding a bike through the streets of the capital.
The plot details for ‘Mission Impossible 8’ have not yet been revealed, but it is confirmed to be a follow-up to ‘Dead Reckoning Part One’. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and co-written by McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen, the film stars Cruise as the iconic character Ethan Hunt. Joining an ensemble cast, including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, Rolf Saxon, Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Mark Gatiss, Charles Parnell, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, Lucy Tulugarjuk, and Katy O’Brian.
You can also see footage of the filming scenes at Whitehall, Parliament Square, and Westminster Bridge. Cruise is seen being chased by police officers and army soldiers, managing to escape despite his smart suit being splattered with blood as he runs across iconic London landmarks.
‘Dead Reckoning Part One’ concluded its domestic run with $172 million, marking one of the year’s biggest flops. Internationally, it grossed $393 million, bringing the worldwide total to $566 million against a $220 million budget.
Currently, Paramount Pictures has slated Mission: Impossible 8 to hit theaters on May 23, 2025. However, the ongoing situation may cause a delay in the release date.
