The final episode of Stranger Things Season 5 is now being filmed in Jackson, Georgia, set in 1989. Newly leaked set images reveal that David Harbour‘s Chief Jim Hopper will survive in Season 5.
According to paparazzo Christopher Oquendo, Harbour and Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) filmed a “heartbreaking” scene on December 2, 2024, in Georgia.
On X, user @Tate100T shared live footage and images from Stranger Things Season 5, showing “Hopper rubbing Mike’s back—assuring him it’s going to be okay. They both visibly look upset—eventually, Hopper walks away, leaving Mike staring blankly for a while.” Apparently, someone has died.
During the Happy Sad Confused podcast’s 10th-anniversary celebration in New York City, Harbour stated that the final season “is the best episode they’ve ever done.”
“I can be very critical of this show,” he revealed, adding that in Season 5, Episode 8, “they land the plane, and it is the best episode they’ve ever done.”

Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas are expected to survive — and graduate from Hawkins High School. The show’s co-creator Matt Duffer confirms that Season 5 will be the final season, concluding the stories of Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, and Hopper.
