The first images of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor were spotted on the set of James Gunn’s ‘Superman‘ in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, on June 26, 2024. See the images below.
Currently, an action sequence featuring a huge cast of DC superheroes is happening in Cleveland. In the images, Hoult is seen as a perfect comic-accurate portrayal of the corrupt billionaire, Lex Luthor. We can see many injuries on his bald head.
According to the rumored plot for Superman: “Other superheroes are edgy and kill when necessary. Superman is an outcast among them for his optimism and no-kill rule, ultimately inspiring them to change their ways. Lex Luthor is war profiteering on an armed conflict in a foreign nation called ‘Jarhanpuria’ (per IMDb). Superman intervenes in the conflict, and the U.S. government deploys a clone created by Luthor, dubbed ‘Ultraman,’ to arrest him. Ultraman deteriorates into Bizarro and goes rogue. Superman and his superfriends must stop him, while Lois Lane and the Daily Planet staff work to expose Luthor for his crimes. The movie reportedly ends with Superman revealing his secret identity to Lois, Luthor avoiding repercussions for his crimes and announcing he is running for President, and Supergirl arriving on Earth, plus other DCU setups like the Engineer getting recruited into the Authority.”
Directed by Gunn, the film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason / Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica / The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Hoult as Lex Luthor, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl.
Gunn confirmed that he respects old Superman movies and that the script he made was definitely a sincere superhero movie. The film will be the DC Universe’s first film and the third installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, created by Gunn and Peter Safran. We already reported that the film is being shot entirely in IMAX.
‘Superman’ is scheduled to theaters on July 11, 2025.
