Pedro Pascal and Chris Hemsworth are set to star in ‘Crime 101,’ adapted from Don Winslow’s novella. The film follows high-level jewel heists and carries a crime vibe similar to ‘Heat‘ (1995).
According to Deadline, Amazon and Netflix are competing intensely for the rights to ‘Crime 101.’ Bart Layton, known for directing ‘American Animals,’ is attached to direct. The main contenders are Amazon and Netflix, with Amazon currently having a slight advantage.
The collaboration involves Working Title’s Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, Shane Salerno’s Story Factory, and CAA. The story is a gripping crime tale akin to ‘Heat.’ High-level jewel thefts along the Pacific Coast are linked to Colombian cartels. Detective Lou Lubesnick pursues a different lead, focusing on a thief in search of a final big score. The story was published by HarperCollins in Don Winslow’s collection “Broken” in 2020.
In 2023, Pascal starred in HBO’s The Last of Us, based on a video game. He played Joel Miller, protecting Ellie. He also acted in a short film and joined Gladiator’s sequel. He made Emmy history with a nomination for The Last of Us.
Hemsworth will next appear in the Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off Furiosa. He recently reprised his role as Tyler Rake in Extraction 2 for Netflix.
Both actors had shown their interest in the project before any deals were made. Currently, it’s a rights deal with a UK-based producer and looks promising.
