Note: This article contains potential spoilers for Scream 7.
The exclusive plot details for the upcoming Scream 7 have leaked online. The film, coming to theaters on February 27, 2026, is directed by Kevin Williamson and written by Guy Busick, from a story by James Vanderbilt and Busick.
The movie starts in Woodsboro, at Stu’s old house. It’s an Airbnb now. A random couple livestreaming their stay finds a Ghostface animatronic—looks goofy at first—but then the real Ghostface shows up and kills both. The house literally explodes.
Then it cuts to a new town. Sidney (Neve Campbell) lives there. She goes by her husband’s last name now. Her husband, Mark Evans (Joel McHale), is the police chief. She has a teenage daughter named Tatum (Isabel May), and they don’t get along. She also has two younger daughters, but they’re sent away for safety after the news breaks. Maureen’s death anniversary is coming up, and Sidney feels evil approaching. Literally.

A patient escapes from an asylum. The surprise here is that he’s played by Matthew Lillard. He looks like an older Stu (face messed up but still him). He’s shown in Michael Myers-style shots, just watching people from far away—especially Tatum and her friends. In a creepy scene at a coffee shop, Sidney sees him sitting at a table. They lock eyes. She looks away for a second, looks back, and the table is empty. It feels like she just saw a ghost.
Right after that, Sidney gets a FaceTime call. Ghostface. He takes off his mask. It’s a deepfake of Stu Macher. He tells her he’s coming for Tatum. Sidney freaks out, thinking Stu is alive. Mark worries about his wife’s sanity.
Then Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) shows up in town with Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown). Chad and Mindy actually work for Gale now. After the events in NYC, Sam and Tara entered FBI witness protection, and Gale promised them she’d take care of the twins. So Chad and Mindy have been with her ever since, kind of like her team.

Sidney tells Gale she saw someone who looks exactly like Stu. Gale thinks she’s imagining it. Mindy delivers her meta monologue about rules and whatever, so they start digging while Sidney and Mark try to protect Tatum. At some point, Gale gets a call—Ghostface. It’s Dewey’s voice. He taunts the twins and Sidney’s family. Gale hides it away, but you can tell she’s shaken.
It ends in chaos at night. The man shows up right outside Sidney’s house. Gale, already rattled from the call, sees him while pulling up with Chad and Mindy, and just snaps. Not accidental. She slams the gas and runs him over. The guy dies instantly. The whole neighborhood runs out after hearing the crash, phones out recording. Suddenly, Gale becomes a suspect. Cops swarm the place, the media storm erupts everywhere… and Sidney just watched Stu Macher die in front of her. Again.
Scream 7 will hit theaters on February 27, 2026, by Paramount Pictures.
