The reboot of ‘Spawn’ is in active development eyeing a 2025 release date. Blumhouse’s Jason Blum revealed that the project is close to entering production and will be released in theaters in 2025. However, the script remains unfinished due to the ongoing Writers Guild strike.
Jason Blum Shared ‘Spawn’ Reboot Progress, Hopes for 2025 Release
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Blum shared that the ‘Spawn’ reboot is in active development, giving fans reason to be hopeful. He mentioned the need for writers and studios to resolve their differences and resume writing.
Blum said, “I would say you have a lot to hope for because it’s in very active development.” Blum added, “What needs to happen is that my fellow friends, the writers, and the studios, need to figure out their differences and get back to writing, but we’ve got a great group of folks putting it together, and my hope is that that movie—my prediction is maybe we’ll actually see a Spawn movie in ’25. No promises, but that’s my prediction.“
‘Spawn’ was released in 1997. It is a superhero film based on the comic book character created by Todd McFarlane and directed by Mark A.Z. Dippé. The film grossed $87.8 million worldwide. The film tells the story of Al Simmons, a skilled government assassin who is betrayed and murdered by his own boss, Jason Wynn. In the afterlife, Al makes a deal with Malebolgia, the ruler of Hell, in order to return to Earth. He is transformed into a demonic creature known as Spawn and is given superhuman abilities.
The latest film from Blumhouse Productions is ‘Insidious: The Red Door,’ scheduled to be released on July 7, 2023, by Sony Pictures Releasing. Directed by Patrick Wilson in his directorial debut, the plot follows, “Set ten years after the ending events of the second film, Josh Lambert heads east to drop his son Dalton off at an idyllic, ivy-league university. However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both. To end the haunting and to put the demons to rest once and for all, Josh and Dalton must return once again to the Further in order to stop the Lambert nightmare for good.” The screenplay is written by Scott Teems, with a story by Leigh Whannell.
