The story development for ‘Extraction 3‘ has already started.
Director Sam Hargrave, known for his directorial debut in the 2020 film ‘Extraction,’ has confirmed that ‘Extraction 3’ is currently in development. With ‘Extraction 2‘ scheduled to premiere on June 16, 2023, Hargrave says that if the film receives a positive response from fans, Netflix will give the green light for a third installment in the series.
Speaking to BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast, Hargrave revealed that ‘Extraction 2’ will only happen if it is “well received” by fans. Hargrave said, “We’re kind of waiting to see how the second movie is received.” He added, “Fingers crossed, if people enjoy the second one, there already is — and this is without spoiling anything — but there is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can’t say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.”
According to Hargrave, Chris Hemsworth has expressed an interest to continue the Extraction franchise despite his plans to step back from acting temporarily. Hargrave mentioned that Hemsworth values spending time with his family and enjoying the life he has earned. However, the opportunity to further explore the character and the appeal of having a franchise outside of the Marvel universe are both factors that entice Hemsworth to participate in a potential third Extraction film.
Extraction 2 is based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman. The film serves as a sequel to the 2020 film. Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani, and Adam Bessa reprise their roles, with Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, and Tinatin Dalakishvili joining the cast. The script is penned by Joe Russo.
According to the film’s official plot synopsis:
After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held.
Sam Hargrave is best known for his work as a stunt coordinator and second unit director on numerous action films. He has also worked on films like “The Hunger Games” series, “Atomic Blonde,” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
Extraction 2 will premiere on June 16, 2023, on Netflix.
