Following the release of Asteroid City, Wes Anderson is now preparing for his next film, which revolves around a father-daughter story featuring two lead roles. Michael Cera will play the father, and filming will start in the fall.
Anderson said that since his daughter was born 7 years ago, his wife has always predicted that he would eventually create a film centered around a father-daughter story.

During an interview for French outlet Cinema Teaser, Anderson said, “I finished writing a new film, which was right before the writers’ strike happened. If everything goes well, then we’ll be shooting that one this fall. This time around, I just have three main characters in the film; that’s it. A few side characters, but the crux of the story focuses, actually, on two main characters.” He added, “I’ve long delayed this project for years, but it recently spoke to me again. Ever since my daughter was born seven years ago, my wife said that I would end up doing a father-daughter story. I wasn’t sure what other stories I could tell, but then this film came along. It’ll be a story about a father and his daughter.”
Asteroid City revolves around the transformative events that take place during the annual Junior Stargazer convention in a retro-futuristic reimagining of 1955. The film had a star-studded cast including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum.
