Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist were spotted training on the set of Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers. The sports comedy film follows a wife and coach of a famed tennis player in the middle of a losing streak and signs him up for a Challenger event, where they discover he will compete against her former lover. Directed by Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes. The film stars Zendaya as Tashi Donaldson, Josh O’Connor as Patrick Zweig, and Mike Faist as Art Donaldson.
According to Deadline, Challengers plot follows Tashi, a tennis player-turned-coach who has helped to transform her husband, Art, from a mediocre player into a world-famous Grand Slam winner. However, he’s hit a losing streak, and to jolt him out of it she makes him play a “Challenger” event (which, for those who know nothing about sports, like us, is on the lower end of tournaments on the pro tour). At this event, Art finds himself looking across the net at the once-promising but now burnt-out Patrick, who just happens to be his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.
Challengers will hit theaters on August 11, 2023.
