Zoë Kravitz (The Batman, Kimi) is returning to her acting career following her directorial debut, “Blink Twice.” She has been cast alongside Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky’s next film, “Caught Stealing,” for Sony Pictures.
Directed by Aronofsky from a screenplay by Charlie Huston, the crime thriller is based on Huston’s 2004 book of the same name. The film follows Hank Thompson — a burned-out former baseball player — as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ’90s New York City.
Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures, based in New York, is producing the film alongside his partner Ari Handel. They’ve previously worked on films such as Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, Noah, mother!, and The Whale, among others.
Read the ‘Caught Stealing’ synopsis below:
Henry “call me Hank” Thompson used to play California baseball. Now he tends to a bar on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. When two Russians in tracksuits beat Hank to a pulp, he gets the clue: someone wants something from him. He just doesn’t know what it is, where it is, or how to make them understand he doesn’t have it. Within twenty-for hours, Hank is running over rooftops, playing hide-and-seek with the NYPD, riding the subway with a dead man at his side, and counting a whole lot of cash on a concrete floor. All because of some Russian hoods and a flat-out freakshow of goons. All because once, in another life, the only thing Hank wanted to steal was third base—without getting caught.
Kravitz most recently appeared in ‘The Batman’ alongside Robert Pattinson and Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Kimi.’ Her directorial debut, ‘Blink Twice,’ starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum, is scheduled for release in the United States by Amazon MGM Studios on August 23, 2024, and internationally by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 21, 2024.
“Caught Stealing” does not yet have a release date, but it will be distributed in the United States by Sony Pictures Releasing.
