There’s a casting update for Marvel’s Fantastic Four. Joseph Quinn is likely playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, and David Cross as Ben Grimm/The Thing. However, no official signings have happened due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Kirby and Moss-Bachrach are expected to sign on once the strike ends. The film is directed by Matt Shakman from a screenplay written by Josh Friedman.

On “The Hot Mic podcast,” Insider Jeff Sneider and John Rocha revealed that Kirby will play Sue Storm, the MCU’s Invisible Woman. Sneider mentioned Marvel’s interest in casting David Cross, a “fat white guy,” as The Thing in ‘Fantastic Four‘.

Sue Storm is rumored as the lead in Fantastic Four. According to Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, the Fantastic Four hold significant importance in the comic book world and has not yet been fully explored within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige said, “The Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There’s certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that’s something that is really exciting for us.“

Galactus Confirmed as Fantastic Four Villain

In Fantastic Four, Galactus is confirmed as the main villain, and Antonio Banderas was offered the role a few months ago, but no confirmation is available yet. In Marvel Comics, Galactus is a powerful cosmic character known for consuming planets to survive. He’s not a traditional villain but a force of nature, often appearing in stories involving characters like the Fantastic Four.

Initially rumored cast for the film were Adam Driver, Margot Robbie, Paul Mescal, and Daveed Diggs. Driver was offered the role of Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards), but later confirmed Driver is reportedly not interested in playing Reed Richards in Fantastic Four and passed on the role early on because “He couldn’t connect with the character.”

In Marvel Comics, the Fantastic Four team consists of four members: Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards), the Invisible Woman (Susan Storm), the Human Torch (Johnny Storm), and the Thing (Ben Grimm). They got superpowers after being exposed to cosmic rays during a space mission, which granted them extraordinary abilities. Mr. Fantastic gained the power to stretch his body to incredible lengths; the Invisible Woman can render herself and others invisible; the Human Torch can control and generate fire; and the Thing possesses superhuman strength and a durable rocky exterior.

Produced by Kevin Feige, Grant Curtis, and Nick Pepin. Fantastic Four hits theaters on May 2, 2025. The filming will begin in London in January 2024.
