‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie‘ has wrapped production, as confirmed by producer Alex Kirwan on Instagram. It marks the first-ever fully animated Looney Tunes feature-length movie for theaters.
On Instagram, Kirwan shared the wrap news and wrote, “As of today, the Porky and Daffy movie is done!!!! We began working on “The Day the Earth Blew Up” almost exactly four years ago, and to say that it’s been a wild ride since then is an understatement. Against all odds, this weird little project survived a tremendous amount of company and world changes to finally cross the finish line. It’s something pretty special too. A completely hand-drawn animated feature starring just a couple of classic cartoon characters (not a giant ensemble cast) in a sci-fi comedy mashup—this thing is a total anomaly right now. We hope very much that the world gets to see it very soon.”
“Thanks so much to Pete Browngardt and WB for letting me be a part of this crazy thing. Btw, this is an early development drawing I did when we were still trying to find the right look for our characters.”
Now, fans have begun to worry about Warner Bros., who had previously shelved ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ and claimed it as a tax loss. Despite this concern, Warner Bros. is producing ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.’ However, there’s reassurance as GFM Animation is releasing the film and holds the distribution rights, preventing Warner from shelving it.
What is the Synopsis of ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie’?
According to GFM Animation, the official synopsis reads: “That’s not all, folks! Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, one of the greatest comedic duos in history, are making their hilarious return to the big screen in the sci-fi comedy adventure, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. This is the first-ever fully animated Looney Tunes feature-length movie created for a cinematic audience. Porky and Daffy are our unlikely heroes and Earth’s only hope when facing the threat of an alien invasion. In this buddy comedy of epic proportions, they race to save the world, delivering all the laugh-out-loud gags and vibrant visuals that have made the Looney Tunes so iconic, but on a scope and scale yet to be experienced. It’s going to be out of this world!”
Directed by Pete Browngardt in his feature directorial debut and written by Kevin Costello, the film is a spin-off of the Looney Tunes Cartoons series developed by Browngardt. The voice cast includes Eric Bauza as Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, Candi Milo as Petunia Pig, Peter MacNicol as The Invader, Fred Tatasciore, and Laraine Newman.
The film is produced by Warner Bros. Animation in collaboration with GFM Animation, which also handles worldwide distribution. It’s the first fully animated non-compilation feature film in the Looney Tunes franchise to get a theatrical release. The executive producers are Sam Register and Pete Browngardt.
