‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, reportedly leans heavily towards being “mostly a jukebox musical,” as confirmed by Variety. The film will include at least 15 covers of “very well-known” songs.
The film had a $200 million budget, with Phoenix slated to earn $20 million and Gaga $12 million. Insiders reveal that the film is shaping up to be mostly a jukebox musical, featuring 15 well-known songs. One of these is reported to be “That’s Entertainment” from the musical “The Band Wagon.” While there’s a possibility for original songs to be added, details remain unknown. Hildur Guðnadóttir, the Oscar-winning composer of the first film, is said to be infusing her distinctive style into each number.
Directed by Todd Phillips and stars Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, Gaga as Harley Quinn, Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. The filming began in December 2022 and finished in April 2023. While filming was underway, leaked images of Gaga in New York City surfaced online. Gaga is playing the role of Dr. Harleen Quinzel (Harley Quinn), a psychiatrist who falls in love with Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) and is also his greatest supporter.
Recently, cinematographer Lawrence Sher described ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ as a “pretty risky and surprising movie.”
The film is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, Bron Creative, and Joint Effort.
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is set to premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in September 2024 before its theatrical release by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 4, 2024. Watch the trailer below.
