Apple TV+ released the first trailer for Steve McQueen‘s Blitz, starring Saoirse Ronan and Elliott Heffernan in an epic journey set in London during World War II. A defiant young boy, George (Heffernan), embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while his distraught mother, Rita (Ronan), searches for her missing son. The film is written and directed by McQueen. The cast of Blitz includes Harris Dickinson as Jack, Erin Kellyman as Doris, Stephen Graham as Albert, Kathy Burke as Beryl, Paul Weller as Gerald (Rita’s father), Leigh Gill as Mickey Davies, Benjamin Clementine as Ife, Mica Ricketts as Jess, CJ Beckford as Marcus, Alex Jennings as Victor Smythe, Joshua McGuire as Clive, Hayley Squires as Tilda, and Sally Messham as Agnes.
What is the Plot of Blitz?
Steve McQueen’s Blitz follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
In a statement during the announcement of Blitz‘s premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, McQueen said (Via Variety), “Blitz is a movie about Londoners. It honors the spirit of what and how Londoners endured during the Blitz, but also explores the true representation of people in London, while at its core is the story of a working-class family desperate to be reunited during times of war.”
The film is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Steve McQueen, Anita Overland, Adam Somner, Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Michael Schaefer. The production companies involved are Apple Studios, Regency Enterprises, New Regency, Working Title Films, and Lammas Park.
When and Where Will Blitz Premiere, and What are the Release Dates?
Blitz will premiere as the opening film at the BFI London Film Festival on October 9, 2024. It is scheduled to be released in select theatres in the United States and the United Kingdom on November 1, followed by a streaming release on Apple TV+ on November 22.
