The first official look at Tron: Ares, starring Jared Leto, has been revealed by Empire Online. The film is set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
In an interview with Empire, Director Joachim Rønning describes Tron: Ares as ‘a little grittier, a little bit more industrial,’ reflecting the musical change. He says the new musical direction offers a fresh take on the Tron world, shaping a darker and more immersive atmosphere. See the first look below.
Rønning said, “With Nine Inch Nails making the music, this instalment will be a little grittier, a little bit more industrial.” Rønning added, “It’s been important for me to contrast The Grid and the real world. In that sense, Nine Inch Nails lends itself perfectly into this new Tron world that we are creating.”
Rønning confirms that Tron: Ares will spiral downward into darker territory—set against a backdrop of AI-vs-reality conflicts. Despite the dark themes—the heart of Tron: Ares will remain human—focusing on the emotional aspects of the story.
Directed by Rønning, with a story by Steven Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird and a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, the film serves as a sequel to Tron: Legacy (2010) and is the third installment in the Tron franchise.
The film also stas Evan Peters, Cameron Monaghan, Greta Lee, Sarah Desjardins, Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn.
