Sony Pictures Entertainment has officially released the opening 8 minutes of Kraven the Hunter, surprising fans everywhere. Tickets for the movie are now available for purchase.
The opening scene features Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) being escorted to a prison, where he pretends to be an inmate as part of his mission to kill the head of the Kirov Gang. During the meeting, Kraven kills the gang leader and escapes from the prison. Suddenly, a plane appears to assist Kraven in his getaway. Watch the clip below.
But why did Sony release an 8-minute clip? Aren’t they afraid the audience might not watch the film in theaters? It’s possible Kraven the Hunter will be the last film in the SSU. It’s also confirmed that there is no post-credits scene in Kraven.
Kraven the Hunter director J.C. Chandor recently said that the movie will rebuild the SSU. He asked fans to give the movie a chance.
Chandor said, “I don’t want to get too into the nitty-gritty of it, but here’s what I would say: for me as a filmmaker, my number one goal—especially, quite frankly, over the last couple of years where you guys are deep in this world—is to move forward. Some of the fans out there—a lot of the fans—were upset with certain decisions and certain outcomes [of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe].” Chandor added, “Then with other films, they’ve gone on to be tremendous successes. So there’s been—there’s been a mixed success rate. People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film—and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance.”
In Kraven the Hunter, Kraven (Taylor-Johnson) is recruited by Calypso (Ariana DeBose) to stop a corrupt magnate named Gregory Herd (Alessandro Nivola) from doing something bad called the Gathering of the Five. Herd hires two people, the Foreigner and the Chameleon (Fred Hechinger), to stop Kraven. Later, Kraven finds out that the Chameleon is his brother, and their father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), is the real villain and Herd’s boss. Calypso also works for Nikolai and tricks Kraven so that Nikolai can sacrifice him. But then Calypso falls in love with Kraven and helps him fight Nikolai.
Produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and David Householter, with production companies including Columbia Pictures, Marvel Entertainment, TSG Entertainment, and Arad Productions.
Kraven the Hunter will be released in 2D, IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX in the United States on December 13, 2024, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
