Moana 2 is now playing in theaters, and fans have an exclusive update on the third movie.
According to insider Daniel Richtman in his new Patreon post, Moana 3 is already being planned at Disney following the success of Moana and Moana 2.
What Does the Moana 2 Post-Credits Scene Set Up?
The Moana 2 post-credits scene already sets up the future by introducing villains Nalo and Magrangi, confirming that a third film is coming.
Moana was released in 2016, grossing $687.2 million worldwide. The sequel, released in 2024 and currently playing in theaters, has now surpassed $400 million worldwide at the box office. The Moana franchise has now entered the $1 billion club.
A live-action Moana movie is also in development, starring Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as Maui. The film recently wrapped filming and is scheduled to hit theaters on July 10, 2026, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
In Moana 2, Moana and Maui reunite three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino.
The voice stars are Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Johnson as Maui, Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Simea, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Hualālai Chung as Moni, Rachel House as Tala, Awhimai Fraser as Matangi, Gerald Ramsey as Tautai Vasa, and Alan Tudyk as Heihei.
