The script for Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man 4 is still being rewritten.
Following the weak structure of the first draft of Spider-Man 4, the script is reportedly still undergoing rewrites, according to Daniel Richtman on his Patreon account. The original script featured Scorpion and Shocker, but it has now been scrapped.
As we previously reported, the Spider-Man 4 script doesn’t meet expectations for a follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home. As a result, Marvel boss Kevin Feige and Sony Pictures feel pressured to deliver something even better, with the writing team—Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers—working to fix the plot and improve the story.
Once the script is completed, filming will begin as per the planned schedule in June in the United Kingdom, with wrapping expected in October 2025. Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus) reports that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are planning another multiverse-themed Spider-Man 4, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield taking on larger roles. The studios aim to create a dynamic team-up film — similar to Deadpool & Wolverine — with Spider-Man and Venom as the primary duo.
Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will direct the film from a screenplay by McKenna and Sommers, it will be the fourth installment of the Spider-Man series. According to The InSneider report, Zendaya, who plays Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones in the Spider-Man movies, will reportedly have a ‘severely reduced’ role in Spider-Man 4 due to scheduling conflicts with several other films she has signed on for. Her role in the movie is now described as ‘minor.’
Produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man 4 arrives in theaters on July 24, 2026.
