A New York crime boss has been cast in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Marvel Studios has cast Marvin Jones III to play the role of Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He previously voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and was reportedly set to play him in the cancelled El Muerto.
In Marvel Comics, Tombstone, whose real name is Lonnie Lincoln, is one of New York’s most notorious crime bosses, often clashing with Spider-Man. Created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk, he first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #36 in March 1988.
Tombstone has superhuman strength—as well as near-invulnerability due to his unusually dense bone structure—and is also skilled in hand-to-hand combat and marksmanship.
Tombstone has been confirmed to appear in the movie, a detail first revealed during Disney’s Blockbuster Consumer Products panel. Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tombstone are all set to appear in the film.
According to The Cosmic Circus, Tom Holland may have revealed the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The villain has been described as “simpler, meaner, and badder” than Alistair Smythe.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the film from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink joins the cast alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Additionally, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will appear in the movie.

After the world has forgotten his name, Peter Parker (Holland) begins a new chapter in his life — balancing college classes, part-time work, and his responsibility as New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. But when a mysterious force begins to unravel the city from the inside out, Peter finds himself caught between powerful enemies, old legacies, and unexpected allies. As shadows from the past creep into his present, he must redefine what it truly means to be a hero — on his own.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on July 31, 2026.
