Minions 3 Titled ‘Minions & Monsters’ and Plot Details Revealed

Universal Pictures and Illumination’s Minions 3 has been titled Minions & Monsters and is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 1, 2026.

Following a recent test screening, someone reportedly leaked the entire movie’s audio from start to finish on major social media platforms. The leaked audio has a runtime of 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Minions & Monsters is the third film in the Minions series and the seventh overall in the Despicable Me franchise. It serves as a sequel to Minions: The Rise of Gru and follows the Minions as they embark on a new adventure to become filmmakers and content creators.

From the leak, Minions & Monsters follows three new Minions named James, Henry, and Ed who head to Hollywood against the wishes of the others. Meanwhile, the remaining Minions meet a robot named Dort who wants to rule the world but changes after falling in love. The trio discovers a spellbook and accidentally summons Goobi, a mischievous creature who creates two giant monsters and unleashes a massive orange creature named Irene. In the end, Dort and his family use their spaceship to defeat the monsters and save the day.

The upcoming installment is written by Brian Lynch, who also wrote the first Minions film, and directed by franchise veteran Pierre Coffin. Coffin will once again voice the Minions.

Last summer, Despicable Me 4 director Chris Renaud addressed the franchise’s future after concluding the movie with what felt like a farewell to the Minions. Renaud said, “Look, I can only speak for myself, and I was a big part of pushing that scene and how it came together. For me, yes. And what I mean is—listen, I know that Despicable Me 4 is doing so well in theaters. They’ve already got Minions 3 in the works. But I thought it was an interesting opportunity, given the 15—heck, 16 or 17 years for me personally working on it—to bring some of the characters across the ‘universe’ together for this great moment, as a kind of fun reunion or crossover. Actually, you just saw something like that in Deadpool & Wolverine. It’s something that’s out there in the language now. So I think, for me, I’ll admit that I thought of it that way, while also fully understanding that it probably wouldn’t be.”

Minions & Monsters will hit theaters on July 1, 2026, by Universal Pictures.
