The biggest surprise from the Avengers: Doomsday teasers was the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, for which Marvel Studios released a trailer. The trailer features a younger version of Steve, not the older version seen at the end of Endgame, shown looking warmly at his old Captain America costume and a newborn baby.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Anthony Russo revealed Steve Rogers’ character importance in Doomsday, saying they “can’t see this narrative without his central role.”
The directors confirmed that Steve Rogers will continue to hold a key place within the ensemble.

Anthony Russo said, “We have a special affinity with the character.” He added, “We can’t see this narrative without his central role in it, basically. The special place he holds among the ensemble, he sort of retains that moving forward.”
These trailers may be part of a larger story, but at this point, we still don’t know what that larger story is, other than “Doom shows up. All hell breaks loose.” But there are some clues. Take the film’s tone, for instance. The trailers are unusual — the only hint of anything approaching an action beat comes when we see James Marsden’s Cyclops unleash his optic blasts.
The Russo Brothers tease the tone of Avengers: Doomsday.
“As much as we run at the fun in terms of what these films can be, we also run at the complexity and the difficulty of what these movies can do at a narrative level. I think we’ve found a new level of that in Doomsday.”
“Victor von Doom demands a certain tone.”
We have reported that Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s son is named James Rogers in Doomsday. Also, Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter will reportedly be a follower of Doctor Doom. Carter believes Doom can help her and her son fix the multiverse, a situation partly caused by Steve Rogers.
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
Here’s the plot synopsis for Avengers: Doomsday:
“Doctor Doom has officially arrived on the Marvel Cinematic Universe stage. This villain, a master of cutting-edge science and powerful magic, will unleash a cascading crisis across the multiverse. Marvel’s most iconic actor, Robert Downey Jr., also returns as Doctor Doom!”
