Scarlett Johansson and Sasha Calle were spotted on the set of Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist while filming in Astoria, Queens, New York City.

In the images, Johansson wears a dark brown pantsuit with a neutral top, giving her a professional look, while Calle appears in a striped shirt, navy pants, and a badge belt. Both are said to be playing detective roles.

The film is part of The Exorcist franchise and serves as the seventh installment overall. It is written and directed by Mike Flanagan. In an all-new story set within The Exorcist universe, a rookie detective (Johansson) trying to prove herself is drawn into an unimaginable evil that shakes everything she believes.

The film is described as a “radical new take.” It is set in the same universe as the 1973 classic and is unrelated to the recent sequels.
The Exorcist stars Scarlett Johansson, Diane Lane, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, Sasha Calle, John Leguizamo, Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Gil Bellows, Carl Lumbly, John Gallagher Jr., Benjamin Pajak, Carla Gugino, Robert Longstreet, Matt Biedel, Samantha Sloyan, and Kate Siegel.
Back in 2024, Flanagan said, “I’ve always felt that there’s no point in going into a franchise or property that monolithic unless there’s something new you can bring.”
Flanagan added, “I chased The Exorcist very aggressively because I was convinced I had something I could add. This is an opportunity to do something that I believe has never been done within the franchise — something that honors what came before it but isn’t built on nostalgia. I really saw an opportunity to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made. I know expectations are high. No one’s more intimidated than I am.”
Produced by David Robinson, Jason Blum, and Flanagan, with Alexandra Magistro and Ryan Turek serving as executive producers. The film is a production of Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Morgan Creek Entertainment, in association with Flanagan’s Red Room Pictures.
The Exorcist will hit theaters on March 12, 2027, by Universal Pictures.
