The filming for HBO’s The Last of Us Season 3 is now underway in Vancouver, Canada.
Most recently, the first look at Kaitlyn Dever as Abby Anderson and Kyriana Kratter as Lev was spotted on the set of The Last of Us Season 3 while filming an action scene. As the HBO adaptation shifts its focus toward Abby’s storyline, fans can expect to see the two characters working closely together in the episodes ahead.

The Last of Us Season 3 will continue adapting the storyline from The Last of Us Part II, following Ellie as she hunts down Abby in retaliation for Joel’s murder. Abby’s actions are fueled by the revelation that Joel killed her father — the Firefly surgeon who was believed to be the only remaining doctor capable of creating a cure for the Cordyceps infection.

At the end of Season 2, Ellie has killed several of Abby’s friends before their first major confrontation erupts, resulting in Jesse’s death. The cliffhanger ending sees Abby shoot Ellie before the perspective shifts to Abby waking up in the WLF headquarters, The Stadium, with the words “Seattle Day One” appearing on screen.

Back in July 2025, HBO boss Casey Bloys said, “The series is definitely planned for 2027.” He added, “Craig [Mazin] is still working out whether it will be two more seasons or one longer season. It hasn’t been decided yet, and I’m following Craig’s lead on that.”
Season 3 will focus mainly on Abby’s perspective, which fans of the game will likely already expect. In The Last of Us Part II, the story is told through both Ellie’s and Abby’s points of view, with players controlling both characters during different parts of the game. The story is split into sections, starting with Ellie’s journey in Jackson and Seattle across Days One, Two, and Three. The game then switches to Abby’s perspective, showing those same Seattle events from her side before later moving to The Farm and Santa Barbara.
HBO renewed The Last of Us for Season 3 ahead of Season 2’s premiere in April 2025. Craig Mazin returns as the sole showrunner after Neil Druckmann stepped away from production.
