David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan are Confirmed as Superman and Lois Lane in James Gunn's 'Superman Legacy'

The cast for Superman and Lois Lane in James Gunn‘s upcoming film ‘Superman: Legacy‘ has been officially confirmed. After a long search, David Corenswet has been chosen to play the new Superman/Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane.

The casting decision followed screen tests conducted by Gunn over the June 17 weekend, with Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney also considered for the role of Superman and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor in contention for the role of Lois Lane, according to THR. Hoult lost out on playing both Batman and Superman. There is a chance he could still be on the shortlist to play Lex Luthor.

Corenswet joins the elite group of actors who have portrayed the iconic character on the big screen, following in the footsteps of Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill. Reeve’s portrayal of 1978’s “Superman” set the stage for the modern superhero genre. Superman: Legacy is the first film in the DC Universe and the third installment in Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film is written and directed by James Gunn, and he also produces with Peter Safran. The cast is not yet announced.

Superman: Legacy follows the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
