A24 released a new trailer for Kyle Mooney’s Y2K, starring Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, and Julian Dennison, which follows an imaginative take on the Year 2000 problem. Watch the trailer above.
Y2K marks Mooney’s directorial debut, with a screenplay by Mooney and Evan Winter. Produced by Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, Allison Goodwin, Christopher Storer, Cooper Wehde, and Evan Winter, the film is backed by production companies A24, Strong Baby Productions, and American Light & Fixture.
Here’s the official synopsis for Y2K:
On the last night of 1999, two high school juniors crash a New Year’s Eve party—only to find themselves fighting for their lives in this dial-up disaster comedy.
The cast of Y2K includes Martell as Eli, Dennison as Danny, Zegler as Laura, Daniel Zolghadri as CJ, Lachlan Watson as Ash, Eduardo Franco as Farkas, Fred Durst as himself, Kyle Mooney as Garrett, Mason Gooding as Jonas, The Kid Laroi as Soccer Chris, Miles Robbins as Nugz, Alicia Silverstone as Robin, Tim Heidecker as Howard, Lauren Balone as Raleigh, and Kevin Mangold as Cool Blue.
Speaking to Collider at South by Southwest (SXSW), where the movie premiered, Zegler shared her excitement about joining the cast of Y2K. She revealed that the opportunity to be part of Y2K was something she simply couldn’t pass up.
Zegler said, “It was so fun to read because I like when things go a little differently than you expect. It’s fun to read stuff like that on the page and then see it come to life on screen, both while you’re filming it and when you see the finished product.” Zegler added, “You really think it’s a typical coming-of-age story, where these two kids are gonna own New Year’s, and then midnight strikes, and things go a little differently than you expect. It was so fun to read. It was so different from anything I had read before, and certainly different from anything I had ever done before, so it was just an immediate yes.”
Y2K will be released by A24 in the United States on December 6, 2024.
