Adam Driver, who portrayed Kylo Ren in the ‘Star Wars‘ sequels, revealed he is not returning to the franchise.
In a Smartless podcast, Driver confirms he won’t play Kylo Ren again, stating his character’s story is done. He said, “They’re doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing anymore.“
Kylo Ren is a dark-side Force user and member of the First Order, the successor to the Galactic Empire. He idolizes Darth Vader, his grandfather, and aims to continue Vader’s legacy by embracing the dark side.
In the Star Wars franchise, Kylo Ren serves as the main antagonist in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015). Driver reprised the role in the sequel films Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Additionally, the character appears in Star Wars Resistance (2018–2020), The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special (2020), and Lego Star Wars: Terrifying Tales (2021).
Adam Driver on Kylo Ren’s Changing Story in Star Wars
Recently, Driver talked about the challenges Kylo Ren faced in Star Wars.
Driver said, “I had an overall arc in mind that he wanted to do, which then changed.” He added, “[Abrams’] idea was almost the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident, the most committed to the Dark Side.”
Driver continued, “By the last movie, he’s the most vulnerable and weak, and he wanted to start at the opposite, where this character was the most confused and vulnerable, and by the end of the three movies, he would be most committed to the Dark Side.”
Driver’s new film, ‘Ferrari‘, is playing in theaters.
