The official plot details for Amazon’s upcoming live-action Spider-Man Noir series have been revealed. The show tells the story of an aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator (Nicolas Cage) in 1930s New York, who must confront his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.
What is the Plot of Spider-Noir?
According to Daniel Richtman’s new Patreon post, in Spider-Noir, “We follow Ben Reilly (Cage), a private investigator, as he stumbles down a rabbit hole of corruption in 1933 New York City, while also establishing his past as a superhero. Reilly investigates the death of Edward Addison, which leads him to discover that the Mayor is up to something nefarious that involves crime boss Silvermane and femme fatale Yuri Watanabe.”
Oren Uziel (‘22 Jump Street’) and Steve Lightfoot (‘The Punisher’) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers for Spider-Noir. They developed the series with the “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, all of whom also executive produce. Harry Bradbeer will executive produce and direct the first two episodes, with Pascal executive producing via Pascal Pictures. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, with Lord and Miller currently under an overall deal at Sony.
Along with Cage, Brendan Gleeson will play the show’s villain, and Lamorne Morris is also part of the cast.
In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Nicolas Cage said that the Spider-Man Noir project will have “eight episodes” and be “more of a Pop-art mashup, like a Lichtenstein painting” with “some sparkle to it.” He added, “I don’t like violence. I don’t want to play people who are hurting people. One of the things that I like about this potential show is that it’s fantasy. It’s not really people beating people up. Monsters are involved.”
Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, said, “We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character.” Pope added, “Along with our brilliant producers and partners at Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, we couldn’t ask for a better team to explore this reimagining of such an iconic character in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.”
‘Spider-Noir’ will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel and then stream globally on Amazon Prime Video.
