In James Gunn‘s DCU, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and Ezra Miller are not expected to reprise their roles. There are reports that Jason Momoa, who portrays Aquaman, may return, but not as Aquaman; he’s reportedly in talks to play Lobo.
So, the final DCEU film will be ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ set to release on December 20, 2023. Affleck’s Batman and Gadot’s Wonder Woman made cameo appearances in ‘The Flash’ starring Miller. Also, Cavill’s Superman showed up in the post-credits scene of ‘Black Adam,’ starring Dwayne Johnson. However, later, it was revealed that Cavill’s Superman 2 movie was canceled when Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios.
Jason Momoa to Become Lobo in DC: Possible ‘Superman: Legacy’ Appearance
Variety reported that Momoa is set to take on a new role in DC as Lobo and could potentially appear in Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’ in 2025 or star in a standalone film. In DC comics, Lobo is an anti-hero and intergalactic bounty hunter known for his crude and violent nature. Lobo has superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and a high level of durability, making him a formidable and nearly immortal combatant.
Momoa reportedly arrived on the ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ set intoxicated and dressed like Johnny Depp, as claimed by Amber Heard‘s therapist, Dr. Dawn Hughes. He also attempted to have Heard fired, but Elon Musk intervened by using a litigator to pressure her to return.
Recently, Gunn has confirmed that Xolo Maridueña will continue as Blue Beetle, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, John Cena as Peacemaker, and Freddie Stroma as Vigilante in his DCU. No further members are reported.
Gunn said, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year—a sort of aperitif to the DCU—and then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.” Gunn added, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories, and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows, and animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”
‘Superman: Legacy’ hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
