Netflix has released the first trailer for Daniel Kaluuya‘s directorial debut, ‘The Kitchen.’ Set in a dystopian future in London where social housing is nonexistent, Izi (Kane Robinson) and Benji (Jedaiah Bannerman) navigate life as residents of The Kitchen, a community determined to hold onto their home. Kaluuya co-directed the film with Kibwe Tavares, featuring a screenplay by Rob Hayes, Kaluuya, and Joe Murtagh. The film is produced by Michael Fassbender, David Kimbangi, Ollie Madden, Conor McCaughan, Daniel Emmerson, and Kaluuya.
What is the Plot of ‘The Kitchen’?
The synopsis of ‘The Kitchen’ follows: “In a dystopian London, the gap between rich and poor has been stretched to its limits. All forms of social housing have been eradicated, and only The Kitchen remains. A community that refuses to move out of the place they call home. This is where we meet a solitary Izi, living here by necessity and desperately trying to find a way out, and a 12-year-old Benji, who has lost his mother and is searching for a family. We follow our unlikely pair as they struggle to forge a relationship in a system that is stacked against them.”
‘The Kitchen’ stars Robinson as Izi, Bannerman as Benji, along with Hope Ikpoku Jr, Teija Kabs, Demmy Ladipo as Jase, Cristale, BackRoad Gee, Dani Moseley as Ruby’s Mum, Harvey Quinn as The Narrator, Henry Lawfull as Cronik, Lola-Rose Maxwell as Fiona, Richie Lawrie as Harry, Alan Asaad as Oozie, Fiona Marr as Amy, and Rasaq Kukoyi as Arinze.
‘The Kitchen’ had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on October 15, 2023, and is slated for release on January 12, 2024, on Netflix.
