The first look at Ari Aster’s Eddington, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone, has been revealed.
The film is described as a black comedy Western thriller that pits a small-town New Mexico sheriff (Phoenix) against his mayor (Pascal) in a pandemic-era power struggle. Check out the first-look image below.

Here are the plot details for Eddington:
Eddington is a Western set during the pandemic, featuring lots of 2020 politics. It has been called an “ensemble film,” but the main story focuses on the rivalry between Sheriff Joe Cross (Phoenix) and Mayor Ted Garcia (Pascal).
The conflict begins when Joe refuses to wear a face mask at a local grocery store. This leads him to run for mayor of Eddington, challenging Ted, who thought he would run unopposed.

According to World of Reel, Eddington includes multiple references to Hillary Clinton, Anthony Fauci, mask mandates, George Floyd, and Donald Trump. Tucker Carlson’s show can also be seen playing in the background in several scenes. The film is said to be highly violent.
Directed by Aster, the film also stars Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Cameron Mann, Matt Gomez Hidaka, and Amélie Hoeferle.
The film is produced by Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen, along with their production company, Square Peg, and A24, which has produced all four of Aster’s films.
Eddington will hit theaters this summer.
