HBO has renewed “The Last of Us” for a second season. So far, the show has gained popularity on social media. Neil Druckmann, the show’s co-creator, has announced that Season 2 will cover the events of The Last of Us: Part 2 (the game).
On Sunday evening in the U.S., Episode 2 of The Last of Us drew 5.7 million viewers (+22% more than the first episode). “The strongest Week 2 viewership growth for an HBO original drama series in history,” according to the network.
HBO has officially confirmed that The Last of Us will be renewed for a second season after the opening episode surpassed 22 million views.
Druckmann said in a statement, “I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey.” He added, “The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with Season 2! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog and PlayStation, thank you.”
The Last of Us follows, After a global pandemic destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity’s last hope. Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) and Bella Ramsey (His Dark Materials, Game of Thrones) star as Joel and Ellie.
